Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Ok, the ending was a bit cheesy but I don’t care because I loved it!

Ifemelu is right up there with my fave female protagonists of all time. I love that she usually says what she’s thinking, but not just that – she’s actually a critical thinker. Her opinions aren’t empty or stupid. She doesn’t accept things at face value but really thinks about things. I really wish more female protagonists were as intelligent and honest as Ifemelu.

The men in the book were also well drawn out and interesting. None were perfect but we’re very believable.

I was also a huge fan of all the political and social conversations that went on in the book.

So glad that I finally got around to reading this book.

  1. Yayy! Another rave review of Americanah. I recently bought it so it’s nice to so many effusive praises for it. I notice that love for Ifemelu is a common trend.

I’m glad I found your blog. It seems that we have some reading similarities. Thanks for following me btw!

    1. Americanah was awesome. Ifemelu was such a great character. She felt so real and human but wasn’t dumbed down to be more ‘approachable’ or like able.

I’m excited to hear about a reader in the blogosphere that likes books other than YA haha. It’s too rare these days. I hope we’ll have lots of fun bookish discussions in the future 🙂
